Air Macau inaugurates new link to mainland China

26 December 2005

Macau, China, 26 Dec – Air Macau opened a new route Monday to link the territory with the southern Chinese city of Sanya in Hainan province, a company source said.

Sanya is the 16th regional destination of Macau’s national carrier, which already flies to Haikou, the provincial capital of Hainan.

Air Macau also flies to Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Gulin, Kunming, Nanjing, Shenzhen and Xiamen in mainland China, Taipei and Kaohsiung, Bangkok, Seoul, Pusan and Manila.

The airline operates a fleet of 13 Airbuses and four freighters.

Macau daily Ou Mun reported Monday that, given the absence or direct air links with the mainland, the flag carrier’s new route would boost tourism from Taipei to southern China and the popular Hainan Island resorts.

Tourists from Taipei use Macau as a transfer hub for visits to mainland China. (macauhub)
