Locomotives from Mozambique to be modernized in South Africa

Maputo, Mozambique, 28 Dec – Some 45 diesel locomotives belonging to Mozambican Railways (CFM) are to be modernized in South Africa, the state-owned rail operator announced Wednesday.

The US$ 31 million modernization project includes the rebuilding of rolling stock and will get underway in January 2006 to be concluded within 12 months, CFM said.

Some of the reequipped locomotives and wagons will be transferred to ownership of Xitimela Leasing Ltd, recently created by CFM and South African investors. (macauhub)
