Macau, China, 30 Dec – Gross receipts from Macau’s casinos are expected to total about 4.6 billion euros this year to make the Special Administrative Region the world’s biggest gaming center.
Portuguese news agency Lusa cited official sources as saying that gaming receipts in 2005 will be about 9 percent up on the previous year, when a 40 percent surge in casino earnings was recorded.
Gaming sector receipts this year in the SAR will give the Macau government a 1.7 billion euro windfall in indirect and direct taxes, Lusa reported.
Direct taxes of 35 percent and indirect taxes of up to 4 percent are levied on gross receipts of Macau’s 17 casino operations. Over 70 percent of government revenue is derived from the enclave’s booming gaming industry.
Gaming revenues in Las Vegas in 2004 were US$ 5.3 billion. (macauhub)
