Luanda, Angola 3 Jan – The Angolan government wants to organize an international mining fair in April this year, Minister of Geology and Mines Manuel Africano has said.
Africano said he is also working with the Luanda Foreign Ministry to organize the first conference of diamond producing countries in his Angola in 2008.
He added that his ministry would take measures this year to boost the potential of Angola’s vast wealth in minerals and precious stones.
The end of Angola’s civil conflict of almost three decades in 2002 has created conditions for boosted production of copper, iron, magnesium, gold, nickel, and platinum, among other minerals, said Africano.
Recent prospecting for gold in Cabinda province and the southern region of Chipindo, as well studies on potential new copper reserves in South Kwanza, have shown encouraging results, said the minister. (macauhub)
