Luanda, Angola, 9 Jan – Angolan Minister of Tourism and Hotels Eduardo Chingunji says he wants to see more investment in the sector during 2006 to respond to increasing demand.
Chingunji told state news agency Angop that although tourism and hotel industries in Angola lack certain capacities and infrastructures, they still account for over US$ 96 million of tax revenues and therefore punch above their weight.
The Luanda government is seeking to channel fresh local and international development into Angola’s tourism sector and wants to create a tourism fund in collaboration with national and overseas banks, added the minister.
Some 194,000 tourists visit Angola annually and the country has 737 hotels, 547 pensions and 60 other establishments offering visitor accommodation. (macauhub)
