13 January 2006

Luanda, Angola, 13 Jan – Angola’s inflation rate in 2005 fell over 12 basis points to 18.53 percent against 31.02 percent registered in 2004, Angola’s National Statistics Institute said Thursday in Luanda.

Despite maintaining the downward trend shown over the past few years the inflation rate missed the 15 percent target set by the Angolan government.

The final accumulated inflation figure in 2005 also went over the 17.7 percent forecast put forward at the beginning of November by Angolan Prime Minister Fernando Dias dos Santos.

December prices in the Angolan capital of Luanda increased by 1.93 percent compared with the previous month and 18.53 percent in relation to December of 2004.

Angola’s inflation rate has fallen over the last few years, particularly since 2001 when it totaled 116 percent and fell to 105 percent in 2002.

In 2003, the indicator fell to two figures for the first time at 76.5 percent. (macauhub)
