Figures for Mozambique public tenders must be presented in local currency

2 February 2006

Maputo, Mozambique, 02 Feb – Proposals put forward for any public tenders launched in Mozambique must present figures in metical, the local currency, regardless of the nationality of the competitor, independent information bulletin Mediafax reported Wednesday.

According to Carlos Jessen, coordinator of the Technical Unit of Administrative and Financial Reform (UTRAF), quoted in the bulletin, the figures on any proposal or invoice must be in metical.

This is one of the many measures put in place to modernize the country’s financial and administrative system and guarantee greater transparency in public tenders.

Jessen added that there were plans to create units to supervise every public tender and that at a later date there would be a standard document for all tenders. (macauhub)
