Macau 2005 trade deficit totals US$1.5 billion

Macau, China, 06 Feb – Macau’s balance of trade deficit totaled 11.52 billion patacas (US$1.5 billion) in 2005 with the import coverage falling from 80.9 percent to 63.3 percent, official figures show.

Figures from the Statistics and Census Services published over the weekend showed that in 2005 Macau exported goods of a total value of 19.82 billion patacas, an annual decrease of 12.1 percent, and imported products totaling 31.34 billion patacas, a year on year increase of 12.3 percent.

Macau’s exports were sent to two main markets – the United States and the European Union – which represented 65.8 percent of the total while imports were mainly from Asia, with Mainland China and the special administrative region of Hong Kong selling Macau 53.1 percent of the total.(macauhub)
