Girassol platform in Angola produces 250,000 barrels per day

Luanda, Angola, 14 Feb – The thirty-nine oil wells that make up the Girassol oil platform in bloc 17 in Angola’s offshore – 200 kilometers northeast of Luanda – contribute 250,000 barrels per day to a national total of 1.3 million barrels, officials said Tuesday.

According to the director of Girassol’s operations, Jorge Assis, the innovative production system on the platform represents an investment of US$2.8 billion and uses techniques that can be applied in other areas, such as space exploration.

Since 1980, gross oil production has increased yearly in Angola and the country currently produces 1.3 million barrels per day.

Angolan reserves are estimated to total 12.4 billion barrels. (macauhub)
