Lisbon, Portugal, 24 Mar – The sale of second-hand locomotives and carriages to Argentina will net Portuguese railway equipment maintenance company, EMEF, 10.5 million euros, the Portuguese secretary of state for Transport told Portuguese news agency Lusa Thursday.
Ana Paula Vitorino, who led the business mission to Buenos Aires, said that Portuguese railway company, CP had signed a contract to sell and refurbish the rolling stock for a total 21 million euros, which would result in “EMEF netting half this amount.”
EMEF is the company in the CP group that is responsible for the maintenance of rolling stock, which will be subjected to a restructuring plan, that the Public Works Minister is due to announce in Lisbon Friday.
The contract includes the sale and refurbishment of a total 126 vehicles, including engines and carriages, which have been replaced by more modern equipment on Portugal’s regional and suburban railway lines.
The Portuguese delegation, which included businesspeople form the public works sector, ports and marine sector, port presidents and operators, was presented with and Argentinean plan for infrastructure development, totaling 4 billion euros of investment. (macauhub)
