Luanda, Angola, 28 March – The Luanda power distribution company (EDEL) has been granted a loan by China to the value of US$44 million to build a sub-station and 127 transformer posts in areas of Luanda province, officials have said.
José Paxe, of EDEL, quoted by Angolan news agency Angop, said that the figure was also for refurbishing and expansion of the medium and high voltage networks and public lighting in urban and sub-urban areas.
Paxe said that, by setting up the transformer posts, EDEL would be able to supply electricity to 26,468 new customers in Luanda.
This is the second stage of a project started in September 2005 and is expected to end in September 2007. (macauhub)
