Chinese viewers to have access to Brazilian soccer

4 April 2006

Sao Paulo, Brazil, 04 April – Chinese television station CCTV (China Central Television) has acquired the transmission rights of 82 games in the main Brazilian football tournaments from Brazil’s TV Globo, officials said in Sao Paulo Monday.

With this acquisition, which includes games until 2008, Chinese CCTV viewers will be able to see games from the Brazilian championship, which begins in April, the 2007 and 2008 seasons of state championships in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro as well as the Brazilian Cup.

The 82 games are part of a package called “Brazilian Magic Football” that TV Globo put together after it reacquired export rights in 2005.

Sales began in January this year and the sale to China is, according to TV Globo bosses, the most important to date. (macauhub)
