10 April 2006

Luanda, Angola, 10 April – Angolan soft drinks factory Refriango will begin producing Sagres beer, under the terms of an agreement with Portuguese company Central de Cervejas, Angolan daily newspaper, Jornal de Angola reported Monday.

The newspaper added that the Portuguese company will be responsible for providing the technology needed for beer production and also ensuring that Angolan staff are provided with training.

The two companies currently have a contract for distribution of Sagres in Angola, where the brand already has a 15 percent market share, according to the company’s figures.

With the start of production in Angola, the chief executive of Central de Cervejas, Alberto da Ponte, expects to increase market share to 40 percent.

Sales in Angola already account for around 5 percent of the company’s total turnover, or the equivalent of 20 million euros per year.

Refriango is an Angolan registered company, with both Portuguese and Angolan shareholders.

With an initial investment of US$20 million, the company has since doubled that figure in 2005 and expects to invest a further US$15 million in 2006.

The factory is installed in the municipal area of Viana, in an area of 20 hectares and has a production capacity of 200 million liters of soft drinks per year. (macauhub)
