Sao Tome, Sao Tome and Principe, 25 April – Sao Tome’s new prime minister, Tomé Vera Cruz, has said the priorities for his term of office were economic growth and increased employment on the archipelago.
Vera Cruz, who was speaking at the swearing in ceremony for the new government, said that the deciding factors for economic growth would be “boosting the market economy and encouraging private sector activities.”
Other priorities laid out by Vera Cruz were “promoting national unity,” and “modernization of public institutions.”
Vera Cruz, an engineer by trade was natural Resources minister of the previous government.
The prime minister will also take on the role of minister for the Media and Regional Integration.
Maria dos Santos Tebus Torres will be deputy prime minister as well as Planning and Finance Minister, and the Economy Ministry will be led by Cristina Maria Fernandes Dias.
The Ministry for natural resources and the environment, which includes the responsibility for decisions on oil production, was handed to Manuel de Deus Lima, former advisor to Sao Tome’s president on economic and financial issues.
The former diplomatic advisor to President Fradique de Menezes, Carlos Gustavo dos Anjos, will now be Foreign Minister. (macauhub)
