17 May 2006

Luanda, Angola, 17 May – The 2nd International Food and Drink Fair 2006 opened Wednesday in Luanda, Angola, with the presence of 130 exhibitors, including 22 Portuguese companies with their own area at the event, officials said.

Food products are one of the main export products from Portugal to Angola and accounted for 17.2 percent of the total in 2005.

The importance of this sector in Portuguese exports to Angola is shown in the fact that Portugal has the largest presence of all foreign countries at the 2006 fair.

The fair, which is set out over two pavilions, has around 100 Angolan exhibitors, 22 exhibitors from Portugal, while the remainder are from Brazil and the United States.

Portuguese exhibitors have been set up in the so-called “Portugal Space” covering 400 square meters, and which was set up by Portuguese corporate and industrial associations, Associação Empresarial de Portugal (AEP), Associação Industrial Portuguesa (AIP) and export promotion agency ICEP.

The fair will run until Sunday at the facilities of Feira Internacional de Luanda (FILDA), on the outskirts of the Angolan capital. (macauhub)
