Viva Macau launches with flights between Macau and Jakarta

25 May 2006

Macau, China, 25 May – Viva Macau, the first low cost airline in Macau, will begin its operations with two airplanes between the end of July and the beginning of August with a route between Macau and Jakarta, a company source said Wednesday.

With two Boeing 767 airplanes already being prepared Viva Macau expects the planes to be delivered at the end of June and that all certification required to operate them will be granted by mid-July.

By the end of the year Viva Macau will take delivery of a third Boeing 767 and as of 2007, as new routes are opened up, new airplanes should be delivered.

Along with some regional destinations such as Indonesia, the Maldives, the Philippines and Japan, Viva Macau plans to launch flights in 2007 to the Middle East and Europe.

The choice of Macau as the company’s headquarters is directly related with lower operating costs that the region’s airport and economy offer in comparison with Hong Kong as well as the strong growth of tourism linked to gaming and gambling, culture and sport.(macauhub)
