25 May 2006

Lisbon, Portugal, 25 May – Portuguese company Parque Expo will act as consultant to Expo Shanghai 2010, for the areas of urbanism, rehabilitation and the master plan, a source from Parque Expo told Macauhub.

This week, a Chinese technical delegation, headed by the deputy mayor of Shanghai and general-commissioner of the Exposition, Yang Xiong, was in Lisbon after also visiting Hanover, Germany and Seville, Spain, cities which have recently hosted universal expositions.

In the Portuguese capital, the delegation was met by the president of Parque Expo, Rolando Borges Martins, and visited Parque das Nações, in the eastern area of Lisbon, where the Lisbon exposition took place in 1998.

A source from Parque Expo said that the consulting service provided would be focused on urbanism, rehabilitation and the master plan, but could also be extended to organizing events and the themes of the exposition.

The final services to be provided will be defined over the next few months when a Portuguese technical delegation visits Shanghai.

Parque Expo and Expo Shanghai in January this year signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in future projects.

Expo 2010 will take place in Shanghai, China’s economic , financial and industrial capital between May 1 and October 31, 2010 in a 550 hectare area, some five times the size of the area in which the Lisbon exposition was held.

The event’s organizers expect to attract some 70 million visitors. (macauhub)
