Macau, China, 29 May – Representatives of Portugal’s seven largest wine producing companies have been in Japan since Sunday for the third and last presentation of Portuguese wines in Asia.

Aliança, Aveleda, Esporão, J.P. Vinhos, José Maria da Fonseca, Messias and Sogrape, are the Portuguese brands that make up the group, which between May 23 and 25 started their European tour by taking part in the Hong Kong wine fair.

On Friday the group organized, in partnership with export promotion agency ICEP and Portuguese diplomats, a dinner at the Portuguese consular residence in Macau which was attended by several representatives of local economic sectors, importers of Portuguese products, hotel managers and restaurateurs.

The group was set up 14 years ago by the largest Portuguese wine companies as a task-force for promoting wines and boosting exports all over the world and is in Asia with ICEP’s support.

In 2005, Portugal exported around 1 million liters of wine to Macau and was the region’s main wine supplier, with a market share of around 64 percent. (macauhub)
