Guangzhou’s GDP rises 14.2 percent in the first half of 2006

Guangzhou, China, 26 July – The gross domestic product (GDP) of Guangzhou totaled 272.97 billion yuan (US$34.2 billion), or a year on year increase of 14.2 percent the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

The city’s industrial sector contributed some 42.38 percent to its GDP, mainly three sectors – vehicles, electronics and petrochemical.

In the same period, Guangzhou’s external trade totaled US$28.906 billion, an increase of 17.4 percent as compared to the same period of last year.

Exports increased 24.1 percent to US$14.677 billion and imports rose 11.2 percent to US$14.299 billion.

According to the 2000 census, the city of Guangzhou has a population of 12.6 million people, making it the most populated city in Guangdong province and the fifth most populated in the whole of China.

The city has an area of 7.434 square kilometers. (macauhub)
