Mozambique launches support line for investors

8 August 2006

Maputo, Mozambique, 08 Aug – The Mozambican Ministry of Industry and Trade has set up an information line for domestic and foreign investors, to simplify and speed up company registration in the country, the ministry announced Tuesday.

The Business Information Center operates via a telephone line for the time being. It provides information about the “requirements and steps needed to establish a company, whatever its nature,” states a note released by the ministry.

The director of the Technical Unit for the Promotion of National Products, Olga Gomes, indicated that the center would “create conditions to encourage business”, enabling “investors to be duly informed, without incurring unclear financial costs.”

Mozambique’s Investment Promotion Center (CPI) approved 74 projects assessed at the equivalent of 295 million euros (US$380 million) in the first half of this year, more than double the figure for the same period in 2005.

The 74 projects approved by the Mozambican authorities between January and June are expected to generate 7,646 jobs. (macauhub)
