Over fifty Portuguese companies attend Macau International Fair

Macau, China, 15 Aug – More than fifty Portuguese companies and business associations will be represented at the Macau International Fair (MIF), due to take place from September 23 to 26, the representative of Portuguese export promotion agency ICEP in Macau has said.

Manuel Geraldes told the Tribuna de Macau newspaper that in order to receive the high number of companies, the Portuguese Pavilion at MIF would be twice the size it was in 2005.

In 2003, 13 Portuguese companies attended MIF, a figure which rose to 18 the following year and 33 in 2005.

Geraldes also said that as well as Portuguese entertainment company looking for partnerships with casinos, 12 winemaking companies would be represented at MIF along with 13 agricultural food producers, 11 companies from the food sector, seven from the industrial sector and two from the services sector.

Geraldes said that during MIF wine and olive oil tasting sessions would be held and for the first time, a Portuguese product tasting session aimed at professionals.

In the first three months of 2006, Portuguese exports to Macau fell by 5 percent as compared with the same period of 2005, according to Geraldes, having totaled 30 million patacas (3 million euros).
