Praia, Cape Verde, 18 Aug – The managing director of Indústria e Energia de Cabo Verde, Abrão Lopes, said the tender to supply and install more capacity at the Praia wind farm has attracted a lot of interest.

Cape Verdean news agency Inforpress cited Lopes, who said that around 15 entities have received the tender documents for the project, the tender for which was launched in June.

The project aims to strengthen capacity of the Praia wind farm by 4.8 megawatts (Mw).

At the moment, the Cape Verdean government is waiting for candidates to hand in their technical and financial proposals, which are due at the end of this month.

The project is valued at US$ 9 million, which will be financed by the World Bank and the Swedish government, according to Inforpress.

The project is part of plans outlined by the Cape Verdean government, whose aim for its current term is to increase the penetration of electricity produced by wind farms into the country’s electricity network.

Abrão Lopes explained that this project represents the second stage of the Praia wind farm and noted that because of reasons relating to financing, he has given priority to this project.

At a later stage, further investments will be made at the S. Vicente and Sal wind farms. (macauhub)
