Macau promotes itself as a tourist destination in Beijing

Beijing, China, 29 Aug – Macau officials are going to organize a week-long event to promote tourism in Beijing, and reveal the “Macau Heritage Passport Campaign 2006”, announced the government of the Special Administrative Region of Macau (SARM).

The aim of “Macau Week in Beijing”, which plans to promote the Historical Center of Macau and strengthen the image of the territory as a place of culture, is to present Macau to the Beijing tourist market and to China, according to a press note to by the SARM delegation.

The initiative, which is taking place between September 1 and 6, on one of the busiest roads in Beijing, has the support of the Chinese government’s Department for Hong Kong and Macau Affairs and the department of tourism of Beijing.

“Macau Week in Beijing” will also hold a forum on “Developing Tourism between Macau and Beijing”, where dozens of the two cities’ tourist operators will participate.

In the six-day presentation by SARM , the people of Beijing will also be able to taste the traditional food of Macau, listen to concerts by Macanese musicians and become familiar with Macau’s monuments via photographs and models.

In the first half of the year, Macau received over 10 million visitors, a majority of which were from continental China (55.9 percent of the total). (macauhub)
