Portugal’s Parque Expo moves closer to contract with Shanghai Expo

Shanghai, China, 05 Sept – Portugal’s Parque Expo is closer to reaching a deal for providing services to the 2010 World Exposition in Shanghai, the secretary of state for the Portuguese Communities said in Shanghai Thursday following a meeting with the city’s mayor.

“We had a very productive meeting with the Expo 2010 organization,” António Braga told Portuguese news agency Lusa, following a meeting with the mayor of the city, where Portugal Wednesday opened a consulate-general.

“Our conviction is that very soon there will be conditions to formalize cooperation.” between Parque Expo and expo 2010, said Braga on the fourth day of a week-long official visit to China, where he also met with the deputy mayor of Shanghai and commissioner-general of Shanghai 2010, Yang Xiong.

In January 2005, Parque Expo signed a cooperation protocol with Expo 2010 to exchange information and experiences on the organization of Expo 98 in Lisbon by the Portuguese company, when Parque Expo said it would like to be contracted to provide consultancy services for the Shanghai exposition.

in April, the secretary of state for Commerce, Services and Consumer Defense, Fernando Serrasqueiro proposed to the Expo 2010 organization that Parque Expo be on the shortlist for providing services to the Shanghai event which, just like EXPO 98 in Lisbon, will take place on a river bank and has the aim of urban renovation of part of the city, which is the economic, financial and commercial center of China.

Although there are no government figures for the cost of holding the exposition, the Chinese official press points to a cost of some 30 billion reminbi.

so far 65 countries and organizations have confirmed their presence at the Shanghai Expo, which will be held between May 1 and October 31 of 2010. (macauhub)
