Mozambican companies’ debts to the social security system total 4.6 million euros

Maputo, Mozambique, 13 Sept – Debts owed by Mozambican companies to the country’s social security system totaled 115 billion meticals (4.6 million euros) at the end of last year, Mozambique’s Labor Minsietr said.

Helena Taipo, speaking on the sidelines of the National Social Security Meeting said she was concerned about the size of the debt and added that the figure was the total owed by 7,000 companies.

cited in Mozambican daily newspaper Zambeze, Taipo said that actions underway to make debtors fulfil their obligations so far had focused on raising awareness amongst employers and unions about the implications of failing to pay.

Taipo also said she intended to implement measures to boost confidence amongst contributors to the social security system and to simplify procedures at the institute, in order to improve the service and prevent excessive expenses. (macauhub)
