Portuguese exports to Macau down nearly 25 pct in first half of 2006

Macau, China, 20 Sept – Portugal’s exports to Macau from January to June were worth patacas 50.9 million (euros 5.09 million), a year-on-year decrease of 24.1 percent, according to official figures.

Portugal’s export basket to its former Asian territory consisted mainly of wine, mineral water, electrical goods and medicines.

In return, the value of Macau’s exports to Portugal dropped by 52.6 percent from patacas 8.2 million (euros 821,000) in the first half of 2005 to patacas 3.8 million (euros 389,000) in 2006. Garments were Portugal’s main import from Macau.

Total commercial exchanges between Portugal and Macau in the first half of 2006 were valued at patacas 54.8 million (euros 5.4 million), down 27.2 percent in an annual comparison. (macauhub)
