Chinese prime minister values friendly relationship with Angola

Beijing, China, 07 Nov – China values the development of friendly relations with Angola, its main trading partner in Africa, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao said Monday as he received his Angolan counterpart Fernando Dias dos Santos.

During a meeting with Dias dos Santos, Wen said that China supported the plan for reconstruction and development of Angola and supported bilateral cooperation in sectors such as culture, education and medical assistance.

Wen said that cooperation between countries should follow the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, which was apparent in the China-Angola relationship.

According to Wen China appreciates Angola’s active role in the Great Lakes region and is willing to contribute to reaching peace and prosperity in the region.

The Angolan prime minister said that economic reconstruction and combating poverty were currently Angola’s most import tasks.

Angola aims to increase bilateral cooperation and plans to involve China in other economic cooperation projects, particularly in the fishing, power generation, road and urban water supply sectors.

Dias dos Santos visited Shenzhen and Shanghai before arriving in Beijing Thursday for the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), held Saturday and Sunday in Beijing.

Trade between Angola and China has increased rapidly over the last few years and in 2005 totaled US$6.95 billion, making Angola China’s main trading partner on the African continent. (macauhub)
