Sumbe, Angola, 08 Nov – More than a thousand Angolan families in the province of Kwanza Sul are to take part next year in a project to re-launch irrigated cotton production, which China is financing with US$40 million, officials said.
The project covers an estimated area of 5,000 hectares and has the involvement of South Korean companies, Samsung Corporation and Hanil Engineering & Construction.
Angolan news agency Angpop reported it was necessary to go ahead with de-mining operations before beginning to plant the cotton.
During the colonial period, Kwanza Sul province produced 21,835 tons of cotton per year and was the second most productive province after Malange. (macauhub)
