Maputo, Mozambique, 15 Nov – Consumer prices in Maputo increased 0.72 percent in October, against the previous month, Mozambique’s National Statistics Institute (INE) said.
In a statement issued Tuesday in Maputo, INE said that between January and September prices in Maputo, which are a benchmark for the rest of the country, rose 5.63 percent.
In October, the inflation rate stood at 13.16 percent with the categories of Food and non-alcoholic drinks and Housing, Water, Electricity and Gas and other fuels contributing most to the price rises.
In 2004, Mozambique’s inflation rate was 9.1 percent, but in 2005 it rose to 14 percent against a government forecast of 8 percent.
This year the central bank expects inflation to total between 7 percent and 8 percent. (macauhub)
