Guangdong’s footwear exports to Europe fall 10.3 percent in October

Guangzhou, China, 16 Nov – Footwear exports from China’s Guangdong province to Europe fell 10.3 percent in October against the same month of 2005, the Information Times newspaper reported citing statistics from the province’s customs department.

Footwear exports have been falling since last April when Brussels imposed an anti-dumping charge of 4.8 percent on Chinese footwear, which was increased to 16.5 percent in October.

Between April and October, Guangdong exported 44.78 million pairs of shoes to the European Union (EU), an annual fall of 2.3 percent.

Guangdong province, in Southern China, is the country’s largest footwear exporter, representing 58 percent of the total in the first 10 months of the year. The province has 791 footwear companies. (macauhub)
