Zhuhai to have two container terminals

Zhuhai, China, 21 Nov – Two container terminals, with a capacity for 50,000 tons of cargo are being built in Gaolan port in the special economic area of Zhuhai in China, which will be the first of their kind in the city, the Zhuhai Daily newspaper reported Monday.

According to the paper, the terminals will cover an area of 57 hectares and 824 meters of coastline and are the result of a joint venture between a Zhuhai company and the Hutchison Whampoa group.

The terminals will have an 800,000 TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) capacity per year, and the first terminal will begin operating in 2008, the second opening a year later.

Zhuhai is a special economic area of China located next to Macau. (macauhub)
