British Gas to drill for oil and gas in Mozambique

28 November 2006

Maputo, Mozambique, 28 Nov – British Gas is due Wednesday to sign a concession agreement for oil and gas prospecting and production in the Sofala, M10 and Zambeze blocs in Mozambique, according to Mozambican newspaper, Notícias.

The agreement, to be signed with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Mozambican state oil and gas company, ENH, represents the second stage of the project after other companies carried out exploratory work.

In Inhaminga, Sofala province, for example, British company, DNO has already drilled in Savane and Chinapamimba and carried out seismic surveys in the Zambeze delta.

Despite the success already achieved in this sector, with the discovery of natural gas in Pande and Temane, which is being exported to South Africa, the Mozambican government recognizes that much investment and work is needed for more discoveries to be made and for use to be made of reserves already found at Búzi.
