Strasburg, France, 01 Dec – The European Parliament Thursday approved a new fishing agreement with Cape Verde, which grants 84 fishing licenses for tuna fishing in Cape Verdean waters, officials have said.

The new agreement, which replaces the 1990 agreement, is applicable for a period of five years and involves a financial payment by the EU of 385,000 euros payable yearly.

The agreement also includes the use of Cape Verdean fishermen in the fishing fleets and sets up a system of incentives to community ships that load and unload at Cape Verdean ports.

The agreement was approved by 374 votes for and 67 against. (macauhub)
