United Kingdom to support budget and education in Mozambique

London, United Kingdom, 05 Dec – The United Kingdom is to provide 250 million pounds to support the Mozambican State Budget and the country’s education sector, the British government said in London Monday.

In order to grant the aid, the UK’s secretary of state for international development, Hilary Benn, and the Mozambican Foreign Minister, Alcinda Abreu. Signed the respective agreements, in the presence of Mozambican President Armando Guebuza, who was visiting the UK Sunday.

Under the terms of the agreement reached in London, the United Kingdom will hand over 200 million pounds in direct budgetary aid over the next five years.

The UK will also provide 50 million pounds for the Mozambican education sector, over the next ten years.

Benn said that the aid was an expression of the confidence the UK had in the ability of the Mozambican authorities to improve living conditions in the country. (macauhub)
