5 December 2006

Bissau, Guinea Bissau, 05 Dec – The government of Guinea Bissau said Monday that it would “do everything” to help create a shipping line to link Guinea Bissau to Cape Verde, in order to encourage and boost trade between the two countries.

The promise was made by Guinea’s economy minister, Issufo Sanhá, who was speaking in Bissau to a group of businesspeople from both countries as part of the “Business and Investment Days.”

The days, which are promoted by the Guinean Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and are the first to be held between businesspeople from both countries and end Wednesday, aim to establish partnerships to increase trade between Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde.

According to Guinea’s economy minister, a regular shipping line between the two countries would make boosting trade easier.

he promised, “full support,” from the government to carry out any initiative to make the existence of that link a reality.

There is currently only one transport link between Guinea Bissau and cape Verde, which is the weekly flight run by Cape Verde’s national airline, TACV on Saturdays, via Dakar, Senegal. (macauhub)
