FIFA invests in sporting facilities in Sao Tome and Principe

Sao Tome, Sao Tome and Principe, 21 Dec – The International Football Federation (FIFA) plans to invest over US$1 million in sporting facilities in Sao Tome and Principe, the president of the Sao Tome Football Federation said Wednesday.

Speaking to Macauhub, Manuel Dendê said that the investment program, to begin in 2007, included the rehabilitation of the archipelago’s main sporting facility, “12th July National Stadium,” for an estimated US$750,000.

Work will include laying down artificial grass, building a five-a-side football field, parking, an electronic panel and refurbishment of three changing rooms.

The program will also refurbish the national football academy facilities, at an estimated cost of US$400,000.

As part of FIFA’s program known as: “Winning in Africa with Africa,” the Sao Tome government will contribute US$75,000 to the construction work on the archipelago. (macauhub)
