Maputo, Mozambique, 26 Dec – As of 2008 Mozambique will begin receiving aid of 480 million euros per year from the European Union (EU), as compared to 270 million euros currently, the Mozambican Foreign Minister, Alcinda Abreu said Friday.
Abreu spoke about increased aid from the EU as she addressed journalists after the official presentation of the new representative of the European Commission in Maputo, Glauco Calzuola, to Mozambican president, Armando Guebuza.
The rise in aid from the EU to Mozambique will be provided as aprt of a new agreement on the European Development Fund, which is still being negotiated by both parties, the minister said.
Abreu noted that the funds had been used for health, education, roads and bridges, as well as water supply. (macauhub)
