Taiwan helps Sao Tome and Principe to rebuild international airport runway

Sao Tome, Sao Tome and Principe, 27 Dec – Taiwan has donated US$900,000 to repair the runway of Sao Tome and Principe’s international airport, the Sao Tome Public Works Minister said Tuesday.

Delfim Neves told Macauhub that the donation from the Taiwanese authorities would be used to repair part of the runway at Sao tome’s international airport, which is in a poor state of repair.

According to the minister, this is an emergency measure and the work will be carried out by a Portuguese company.

Neves noted that the work was part of a plan for modernizing the Sao tome airport structure, the project of which is valued at over US$4 million.

Five days ago, Portuguese air line, TAP, said that as of January 13, 2007 it would suspend all flights to Sao Tome and Principe due to the poor state of the airport’s runway. (macauhub)
