Maputo, Mozambique, 10 Jan – Construction company, China Henan International Cooperation Group (CHICO) has begun the final stages of work on rebuilding the 154-kilometer road between Muxungue, in Sofala province and Inchope, in Manica province linking the north and south of Mozambique, officials said Tuesday.

The project, valued at US$3.7 million, began in November 2004 and was projected to be finished in March 2006, but heavy rains led to the work being delayed.

CHICO, which is one of the largest Chinese construction companies working outside of China, operates in over 20 countries in Asia and Africa including Mozambique and Angola.

The Minister for Public Works and Housing, Felício Zacarias, last week carried out an inspection visit to the rebuilding work on the road and said they were, “excellent.”

The director of Public Works and housing of Sofala province, Marcelo Amaro said that for work to be concluded the only remaining items were the rain water drainage system. (macauhub)
