Portuguese government merges foreign trade and investment promotion once again

12 January 2007

Lisbon, Portugal, 12 Jan – The Portuguese government Thursday approved the law to create the Agency for Foreign Investment and Trade (AICEP) and the diploma that dismantles export promotion agency ICEP, officials said.

The new institute, is the result of the integration of investment agency, API and ICEP – Portugal, will be headed by former API president Basílio Horta, ambassador and former minister for Trade and Agriculture.

The merger of API and ICEP is one of the decisions made as part of the Program for Reform of the State’s Central Administration (PRACE).

The new institute once again adopts the model that existed before API was created in 2002, when ICEP was responsible for both foreign trade and investment. (macauhub)
