Portugal heads list of tourists to visit Sao Tome and Principe

Sao Tome, Sao Tome and Principe, 17 Jan – Portugal topped the list of tourists to visit Sao Tome and Principe between January and August 2006, The Sao tome tourism director, Hugo de Menezes told Macauhub Wednesday.

De Menezes said that of the 4,601 tourists that visited the archipelago between January and August of last year, 2,508 came from Portugal, 630 were from France and 250 from Angola.

Without giving a total figure fro visitors in 2006 due to a lack of statistical data, de Menezes said he expected a “slight fall” over the last 12 months as compared to visitors in 2005.

Of the 10,516 tourists that visited the country in 2005, Portugal accounted for 52 percent, with 5,469 tourists, followed by France with 1,242 tourists and Angola with 552 tourists, he said.

As well as Portugal, France and Angola, Sao Tome and Principe also received visitors from Spain, Germany, Nigeria, Italy and Taiwan. (macauhub)
