Star Cruises to build “boutique hotel” in Macau

Macau, China, 23 Jan – Star Cruises, the world’s third-largest cruise operator, said Tuesday it would build a “boutique hotel” with a casino in Macau called “Resorts World at Macau” with a total estimated investment of 4.7 billion Hong Kong dollars.

According to a statement, a Star Cruises subsidiary New Orisol Investments acquired a 75 percent stake in Macau Land Investment Corporation, which owns a tract of land next to the Nam Van lake in the center of Macau.

The remaining 25 percent of New Orisol Investments is owned by the Genting International group.

The hotel’s casino will be operated by Sociedade de Jogos de Macau.

Star Cruises owns and operates 21 cruise ships and the Genting International group controls the Stanley leisure company which owns and manages 46 casinos in the United Kingdom.

A boutique or design hotel is a US name to describe a hotel with a small number of rooms, which is normally luxurious and whose decoration is themed or follows a particular style. (macauhub)
