Trade between China and Africa totals US$55.5 billion in 2006

Beijing, China, 6 Feb – Trade between China and the African continent totaled US$55.5 billion in 2006, or an annual growth rate of over 30 percent, for the fifth consecutive year, the deputy trade minister, Wei Jianguo said Monday in Beijing.

In the period, China exported goods to African countries to the total value of US$26.7 billion, which was a year on year rise of 43 percent, and imported US$28.8 billion’s worth of goods, or a 37 percent year on year rise.

Wei said that by the end of 2006 China had invested over US$6.6 billion in Africa, particularly in the agricultural, telecommunications and power sectors, and that last year alone Chinese investment in Africa had totaled US$370 million, as compared with US$280 million in 2005. (macauhub)
