28 February 2007

Luanda, Angola, 28 Feb – Angola and Guinea Bissau Tuesday signed two cooperation agreement and one protocol as part of the visit by Guinean president, João Bernardo “Nino” Vieira, to Luanda where he met with his Angolan counterpart, officials said.

Two cooperation agreements were signed, one of which in the economic, scientific and technical area and the other related to security and public order.

A cooperation protocol was also signed between the Angolan Foreign Relations Ministry and Guinea Bissau’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Asked about why an agreement for the oil and diamond sectors had not been signed, Guinea Bissau’s foreign minister, António Isaac Monteiro, said that Guinea Bissau did not mine diamonds or drill for oil and that oil was at a prospecting stage and therefore there was no reason to broach the subject.
