20 March 2007

Maputo, Mozambique, 20 March – The Forum of African Energy Ministers (Fema) is to be held on March 30 in Maputo and the agenda includes discussing the security and stability of energy in Africa, Mozambican daily newspaper, Notícias reported Monday.

The announcement was made by the Mozambican energy minister, Salvador Namburete, last weekend saying that “there is a lot left to do in Mozambique and most African countries to achieve the objective of universal access of populations to electricity.”

In Mozambique, which has considerable power potential, just 9 percent of the population has access to electricity, said the Mozambican minister in a press conference, adding that the country needed significant investment in electricity production and transmission. (macauhub)
