Macau airport sees rise in passengers and flights, but cargo falls

Macau, China, 4 April – Macau’s international airport was used in the first quarter of this year by 1.2 million passengers, a year-on-year increase of around 17 percent, the airport’s management company said Wednesday.

According to the company that manages Macau’s airport, ADA, as well as growth in the number of passengers, between January and March there was also a rise of 8 percent in the number of flights at the airport to a total of 12,866.

The amount of cargo processed at the airport fell 20 percent in the first quarter of 2007 against the same period of 2006 to 42,935 tons, the same fall seen in airmail, which between January and March totaled 46 tons.

Macau’s International Airport was opened in December 1995 and has a capacity for around 6 million passengers per year, a figure which is expected to be reached between 2007 and 2008. (macauhub)
