Imported products may only enter Angola with labels in Portuguese

9 April 2007

Luanda, Angola, 9 April – Imported products may only enter the Angolan market with Portuguese-language labels regardless of whether they contain information in other languages, the national director of Internal Trade, Gomes Cardoso said in Luanda Thursday.

Speaking to Angolan news agency Angop, Gomes Cardoso said that under the terms of the new law of Commercial Activities, approved by the national Assembly on March 1, 2007, labelling in Portuguese is one of the requirements for importing goods to be sold in Angola.

Gomes Cardoso said that the new law outlined this point as Portuguese was the only language spoken all over Angola.

The document, which has seven chapters and 39 pages, also includes access requirements for trade activities, commercial records and land management for commercial establishments.

The document also deals with Infractions and Sanctions for commercial activities. (macauhub)
