10 April 2007

Beijing, China, 10 April – China’s main offshore oil and gas group, China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC), announced last week it would build a liquid natural gas (LNG) plant in Zhuhai, a special economic area bordering Macau.

The company said it had reached agreement with the Zhuhai government for what would be its first LNG project.

With a daily production capacity of 360 tons, the project will be located on Hengqin island and natural gas will be supplied by three wells in Guangdong.

The gas will go on sale in the nearest cities, including, Zhuhai and Zhongshan.

The CNOOC, which is listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange, last year posted gross profit of US$4 billion, according to a company report. (macauhub)
