Matala, Angola, 13 April – Over 8,000 kilometers of roads are to be rebuilt and asphalted in Angola by 2009 by the Angolan Roads Institute as part of the Program for Restoring Road Infrastructures, Angola’s Public Works Minister, Higino Carneiro said Wednesday.
Speaking to the press at the inauguration ceremony for the road linking the Matala/Matala diversion, in Huila province, the minister said he was satisfied with the work carried out by the Andrade Gutierrez/Metroeuropa consortium.
The definitive rehabilitation of 133 kilometers of road on the diversion for the town of Matala to the municipal area of the same name aimed to provide greater flow to traffic.
The project, budgeted to cost US$28 million, was financed via a credit covenant between the Republic of Angola and the Federal Republic of Brazil.
Huila province is one of the main focuses of agricultural and industrial development in Angola, and has a privileged location in terms of links to other regions of the country. (macauhub)
