Lubango, Angola, 26 April – Foreign companies are interested in the iron ore at the Cassinga mine, located in Angola’s Huila province, the chairman of Angolan state iron company, Ferrangol, Diamantino Azevedo said Wednesday in Lubango.
According to Azevedo, cited by Angolan news agency Angop, the re-launch of mining in Cassinga, which was suspended in 1976, will include a partnership between international investors and Ferrangol.
The chairman of Ferrangol said that some complementary geological surveys were being carried out in order to find out precisely the amount of mineral deposits, which are expected to be around 4 billion tons.
In 1981, there was an attempt to re-launch mining by contracting an Austrian company, but efforts were thwarted by the country’s civil war. (macauhub)
